A stylish, subscription-free alternative to Hive/Nest for single-zone UK boilers, replacing the Nest Learning Thermostat which Google no longer sells here. The Philippe Starck-designed display itself runs on batteries, but it talks to a relay module that has to be hard-wired into the boiler's control circuit — a straightforward DIY job for most combi boilers, though system boilers and heat pumps sometimes need an electrician. It only manages one heating zone; for room-by-room control across radiators, look at Drayton Wiser or evohome instead. HA support is via the built-in Netatmo cloud integration — reliable but not local, so treat it as app-plus-dashboard rather than automation backbone.

The climate entity exposes away/boost/frost-guard/schedule as selectable presets, but the device's own manual state — set by turning the physical dial — is not exposed as a selectable preset in HA, so automations have to detect manual overrides by watching target-temperature drift rather than preset state. By default the integration polls on a fixed schedule to stay within Netatmo's API rate limits rather than pushing updates, so setpoint changes made in HA can take several minutes to reflect on the physical thermostat unless webhooks are configured with your own Netatmo developer app and a port forwarded to HA — a step several forum threads report is fiddly to get right, especially over remote-access connections that don't reliably support webhook registration.
