tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat X
- Thread
- Matter
Verified September 2026
At £74.99 this is among the priciest TRVs we track — well above a SONOFF TRVZB and the Bosch Radiator Thermostat II — and you're paying for tado's design and near-silent motor, not raw reliability. It joins Home Assistant locally via Matter, through Bridge X or any Thread border router on your fabric. Unlike the AA-powered Bosch and SONOFF, it runs on a removable rechargeable Li-ion pack charged over USB-C roughly once a year — no battery hoarding, but a routine to keep up with. The included six adapters cover 95% of UK valves (M30x1.5mm thread, direct-fit). Buy the Bridge X starter kit first; singles only make sense as add-ons.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Climate | Climate | Current and target temperature with heat/off hvac_mode only — no auto, schedule or away modes are surfaced via Matter. |
| Humidity | Sensor (%) | Ambient relative humidity from the TRV's onboard sensor. |
Home Assistant's Matter integration exposes only a climate entity (current/target temperature, heat-or-off hvac_mode) plus a humidity sensor — no valve-position, open-window, or battery entities come through, since tado didn't map those clusters to Matter the way its own app does. Multi-fabric handling is fragile: once commissioned to Home Assistant, the tado app will only re-accept the original box QR code (not a fresh Matter code) to also join Bridge X's fabric, so commission Bridge X first or you'll likely need a factory reset to fix the order. Firmware has no OTA requestor over Matter either, so the TRV still needs the tado app's cloud connection to update — a Thread-only setup will silently fall behind on firmware. Since open-window pause isn't exposed, replicate it yourself: pair a door/window sensor with the climate entity and drop hvac_mode to off on open, restoring the prior setpoint on close.
