The best all-round pick for HA users replacing a boiler stat: the X line pairs into Home Assistant over Matter/Thread for fully local control. This is the Wired kit (£157.54 on Amazon UK, £159.99 direct) — the thermostat runs on 3x AAA batteries but wires into your boiler's existing thermostat connection, works with Relay and OpenTherm boilers, heat pumps, and wet underfloor heating, and is a DIY job in minutes with no electrician needed. If your old wiring isn't near where you want the display, tado's Wireless kit uses a separate receiver at the boiler plus a battery sensor you place anywhere. Both kits need the bundled, mains-powered Bridge X.

Pairs as a climate entity via HA's native Matter integration — but only basic on/off and setpoint control, plus a humidity sensor. HA's dedicated tado integration explicitly doesn't support X devices, and Matter drops auto-scheduling and open-window detection, so pair a door/window sensor to an automation that sets the climate entity off when a window opens, replicating what Tado's own app does natively but Matter can't.
