The previous-generation tado° kit, and at around £57 on Amazon UK it is far cheaper than the current X range. The catch is that Home Assistant talks to it through tado's cloud, not locally, and since 1 January 2026 tado applies a daily API quota to that cloud access, so a chatty polling interval can get you cut off. That is the opposite of the Matter-based X range, which HA's tado integration no longer supports at all. Buy this one if you want the lowest price and are happy with cloud polling; buy the X if local control matters. The kit is the wireless variant (receiver at the boiler, battery thermostat you place anywhere) with hot water control support. Check your boiler wiring against tado's compatibility checker before ordering.

The core tado integration (cloud polling, device-code login) gives one climate entity per zone, a water_heater entity for hot water zones, extra zone sensors, a child-lock switch and a presence device tracker. Since 1 January 2026 tado enforces a daily API quota that depends on your subscription, and HA's docs warn the integration can fail when the quota is hit; set a custom polling interval rather than the default if you run automations that hit the API. New tado X devices are not supported by this integration, so don't mix generations in one expectation.
