Our verdict
Cheap, well-known 750 VA tower, but read the small print before buying in late 2026: APC's own product page says the BX750MI is 'to be discontinued on 31 Dec 2026', with the BXR750MI as the recommended replacement. It has four IEC C13 outlets and no UK sockets, so you will need IEC-to-UK leads, and the 410 W rating is modest. Home Assistant sees it only through a NUT server, and the NUT compatibility list flags the BX****MI family as 'may need tweaks since 2023', with at least one forum user reporting no APC driver working on a BX750MI. Plan for some fiddling.
What can Home Assistant control on the APC Back-UPS BX750MI?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Battery charge | Sensor | Percentage remaining, for shutdown automations. |
| Status | Sensor | Online / on battery / low battery states; check for spurious low-battery flags on BX models. |
| Load | Sensor | Output load percentage. |
| Input / output voltage | Sensor | Mains and output voltage. |
Home Assistant's NUT integration (Local Polling, default 60 s) cannot talk to a UPS directly: it needs a Network UPS Tools server running somewhere (host, port 3493, optional credentials, static IP or DHCP reservation). Entities: battery charge, load, voltage and status sensors, plus mostly-disabled diagnostic sensors; buttons/switches only for switchable outlets with an instcmds NUT user. The catch specific to this family is driver behaviour: NUT's hardware list notes the BX****MI series 'may need tweaks since 2023', and a NUT GitHub issue about a related BX1600MI reports spurious LOWBATT/REPLACEBATT events (search result). Expect to test with nut-scanner and possibly override driver settings, and do not wire a shutdown automation to the battery status until you have watched it behave for a few days.
