Are tado and Hive already discounting for Black Friday 2026?
tado is, and Hive is not. The tado UK shop shows a "Halloween Sale" banner offering up to 25% off, and its own product listings carry the reductions in the table above. Hive's heating shop shows no sale banner on 26 October 2026, listing the Hive Thermostat from £119, the Hive Thermostat Mini from £79 and radiator valves from £59.
The tado banner does not say when the sale ends, so do not assume it will run until Black Friday. The practical point is that a discount equal to the headline figure for the radiator valve already exists, which gives you a baseline to beat in November. A November offer that only matches today's £59.99 is not a better deal than buying this week.
How we chose which thermostats to watch
We started from what is actually on sale or reliably priced in UK manufacturer shops today, then filtered by whether the product still makes sense to buy in 2026. Hardware that Google no longer sells in the UK was excluded, and so were boiler-specific controllers that need a heating engineer's assessment before you can price them sensibly.
Within that, we ranked picks by three tests: a verified current price rather than a crossed-out figure we cannot trace, whether the heating control keeps working without a mandatory subscription, and how well it fits a typical UK combi boiler or hot water cylinder home. If you want the wider field before settling on a brand, read our best smart thermostat UK guide, and for the cheapest long-term cost, the no-subscription shortlist.
Which smart thermostats are worth buying or waiting for?
The five below have a verified UK price today. The "was" figure is the one printed on the manufacturer's own shop, not a retailer's marketing claim, and the Hive prices are its standard list prices because there is no sale to quote yet.
1. tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat X — best radiator-valve deal
Who it's for: anyone adding room-by-room control to a house with a working boiler. The tado UK shop lists a single valve at £59.99 on 26 October 2026, down from £79.99, a 25% cut. The four-valve Quattro Pack is £218.99 against £259.99.
The catch is that a valve only works alongside a tado° Bridge X or another compatible controller, and the Bridge X is £49.99 (was £59.99) on its own. Count that cost before comparing with cheaper Zigbee valves. Our best smart radiator valves UK guide shows where tado sits against the alternatives.

2. tado° Wired Smart Thermostat X Starter Kit — best for a combi boiler
Who it's for: a typical UK combi home that wants a wall thermostat and app control. The kit is £119.99 today, down from £159.99 (25% off), which is £40 below the starting price of the newer 2nd-generation wired kit. The 2nd-generation kit was not discounted on 26 October 2026, so the price gap is real.
That gap matters because the first-generation X is still a sound thermostat, and the main 2nd-generation changes are covered in our tado° Smart Thermostat X 2nd gen article. If you have not decided between generations, that is the page to read before you buy either.

3. tado° Wireless Smart Thermostat X Starter Kit with hot water control — best for hot water and no rewiring
Who it's for: homes with a hot water cylinder, or anywhere you do not want to run a cable to a wall thermostat. The shop lists it at £129.99, down from £159.99 (about 19% off). It includes a programmer with OpenTherm support, so a compatible boiler can modulate rather than just switch on and off.
Check boiler compatibility on tado's own checker before paying, because OpenTherm needs support at the boiler end. The 2nd-generation wireless kit with hot water control is £169.99 and not discounted, so the saving against it is £40. Our best smart thermostat for a combi boiler guide explains what to check first.

4. Hive Thermostat Mini — best simple app-only option
Who it's for: households that want the cheapest recognised UK brand and are happy to use the app. Hive lists it from £79, or £71.10 for Hive+ members, and shows no sale on 26 October 2026. The full Hive Thermostat with its wall display is from £119.
Hive's Hive+ plan starts from £3.99 a month, so work out whether the subscription saves you money before relying on it for a discount. Our Hive Thermostat Mini review and Hive Thermostat guide cover how the two models differ, and Hive vs tado compares the brands directly.

5. tado° Wireless Smart Thermostat Starter Kit V3+ — cheapest tado kit, older generation
Who it's for: a tight budget and a boiler the older V3+ platform supports. The shop lists the hot-water-control kit at £89.99 against a printed £199.99, and a Black Edition variant at £69.99. Those are the steepest percentage reductions in the shop, but they are on previous-generation hardware.
The "was" price of £199.99 is the shop's own, so treat the saving as a clearance of old stock rather than a bargain. tado's own pricing for the newer X range does not apply to V3+, and V3+ uses the older Auto-Assist subscription for geofencing, listed at £3.99 a month or £29.99 a year. See what tado Auto-Assist costs before assuming it is a cheap long-term buy.
What did tado cost in last year's sale?
There is no verified UK price list for tado's 2025 Black Friday sale, so we cannot give a UK baseline. The nearest dated evidence is tado's German-market campaign, which mobiFlip reported on 20 November 2025. That sale ran from 20 November to 2 December 2025, with up to 45% off selected X-series products.
| Product | 2025 sale price (Germany) | Was |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Radiator Thermostat X Starter Kit | €89.99 | €159.99 |
| Single radiator thermostat X | €54.99 | €99.99 |
| Quattro Pack | €219.99 | €369.99 |
| Smart Thermostat X starter kits (wired and wireless) | €119.99 | €199.99 |
| Wired Smart Thermostat X | €84.99 | €134.99 |
| Bridge X | €49.99 | €69.99 |
These are euro prices for a different market, so do not convert them into pounds and expect to see the same figure in the UK. What they show is the timing and the depth: the discounts began about a week before Black Friday and ran past Cyber Monday. A UK sale could look similar, but nothing confirms that.
Is it worth waiting for Black Friday to buy a smart thermostat?
Only if you can live without it for a month and a UK sale price actually beats today's. Which? looked at 227 products at eight big UK retailers during the 2023 Black Friday fortnight and found 92% were the same price or cheaper at other times of the year. That study is not about thermostats, so treat it as a pattern rather than a prediction.
The practical test is simple. If a radiator valve is £59.99 or more in November, it is no better than today. If you need heating control before the cold weather properly arrives, a sale you cannot confirm is not worth waiting for. For wider advice on judging offers across the smart home, see our Black Friday smart home deals guide.
What should you check before buying a smart thermostat on sale?
Check four things. First, boiler compatibility: tado and Hive each publish compatibility checkers, and a thermostat that does not suit your boiler is not a bargain at any price. Second, whether a bridge, hub or receiver is included, as a valve or thermostat sold alone can cost another £50, as the £49.99 Bridge X does. Third, the subscription: tado's AI Assist and Auto-Assist plans are £3.99 a month or £29.99 a year, and Hive+ starts from £3.99 a month. Fourth, the return window. GOV.UK sets out sellers' return and refund obligations, but some sellers offer longer Christmas return periods than the minimum, so check the policy before paying.
Who should skip the Black Friday thermostat sales?
Skip them if you want a Nest. Google confirmed in 2025 that it would not develop new Nest thermostat hardware for Europe, and the UK has only ever had remaining stock, so any "sale" is clearing shelves; our Nest thermostat replacement guide covers what to buy instead. Skip them too if your boiler needs an engineer's visit, if your system is a heat pump, or if you would rather buy a cheaper Zigbee valve and run it locally in Home Assistant, which needs no subscription at all.
