Aqara has launched the Power Plug H2 UK, a BS1363 smart plug that runs Matter over Thread or Zigbee from the same hardware — no separate SKU for each protocol. It went on sale on 23 July 2026 through Aqara's UK store, with a plain version and an RGB variant that turns its status ring into a live power-draw indicator.
What's actually new
The headline feature is the dual-protocol radio. Pair it directly into a Matter/Thread network — Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings, no Aqara hub required — or join it to an existing Aqara hub over Zigbee for access to Aqara's own automation triggers. It also acts as a Thread router once commissioned, which is a small but genuinely useful side effect for anyone trying to firm up a patchy Thread mesh.
On the hardware side it's a UK Type-G plug rated 13A / 3250W, with overload and over-temperature protection (auto-shutoff above 80°C), a child lock, and a claimed idle draw of 0.4W or less. The RGB variant (model SP-P07D) adds a configurable colour ring that reflects live power consumption in Aqara's own app; the plain version (SP-P07E) skips that ring but is otherwise the same plug. Both are priced from around £30–£35 depending on retailer, and reviewers immediately flagged that UK Amazon listings were delayed at launch, so Aqara's own UK shop is currently the most reliable place to buy one.
The Home Assistant catch: no energy data over Matter
Aqara is marketing this as an energy-monitoring plug, and it is — inside the Aqara app. What the box doesn't tell you is that Aqara's plugs and outlets don't currently expose power or energy readings over Matter at all, on this device or its siblings. A thread on the Aqara Forum covering the closely related Outlet H2 EU confirms it directly: pairing over Matter gets you a bare on/off switch and nothing else, a limitation independently corroborated by a closed Home Assistant Core GitHub issue reporting the identical behaviour on an older Aqara EU plug.
So if you want the wattage and kWh figures to actually land in Home Assistant's Energy dashboard, hubless Matter pairing won't get you there today. The workaround is Zigbee mode through an Aqara hub instead — but there's no Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA device profile for this model yet, so that path currently means routing readings through Aqara's own app or a HomeKit bridge rather than a guaranteed native HA sensor entity. It's a real gap in an otherwise sensible product, and one worth knowing about before you buy specifically for HA energy monitoring.
If you're not fussed about live energy stats and just want a reliable Thread or Zigbee switch, none of this matters much — the plug pairs cleanly for on/off control either way, and choosing Matter vs Zigbee comes down to whether you already run a Thread network or an Aqara hub.
